Why Our Beach Mats Are Always in the Car

Why Our Beach Mats Are Always in the Car

A mat that actually works

Beach picnics used to end with soggy corners, gritty sandwiches and a damp backside. After enough failed mats, I stopped bringing one at all. Then I tried our Beach Mat on a windy Moreton afternoon and it just worked. No sand trapped in the weave, no soak through from wet sand, no flapping chaos.

Built for real life

The top side is a soft Oxford fabric that is hard wearing and water repellent. Spilt juice beads on the surface, which makes clean up quick with the included spill cloth. The bottom side is wipe clean PVC that stops moisture sneaking through from dewy grass or damp sand. You stay dry which makes a long picnic feel like a treat.

Each mat folds into its own matching carry bag that slips into the boot without taking over. We include pegs that pin the corners when the afternoon sea breeze builds. I keep a little pouch of wooden cutlery inside the bag and it has turned into my default grab-and-go kit for markets and creekside lunches.

Looks that belong outdoors

The prints celebrate Australian places we adore, with coastal tones that feel calm rather than loud. Rolling it out sets a mood. It signals to everyone that this is the base camp for naps, snacks and sandy feet. It has been the stage for countless fish-and-chip dinners and lazy card games while the tide creeps in.

Ready for any plan

Care is simple: shake off sand, wipe spills, give the base a quick once over, then air dry. It is durable enough for camp chairs, gentle enough for babies, and doubles as a clean workspace when I am sorting gear at the back of the car.

For the perfect setup, I like to add a Quick Dry Beach Towel for swims and a Travel Towel as a spare. That mix covers sunrise to sunset without overpacking.
